A couple of weeks ago, while working to get the Reinventing the Supermarket website built and ready for its soft launch for today, I was working on one of the blog posts I’ll be releasing in the coming weeks and noted that, as we look at the dreadful, chemical, non-food mess that constitutes most of what’s in the modern supermarket, we need to return to the past. I chuckled to myself at the time, thinking that the future is back to the past, and as always, a thought like that makes the movie trilogy of Back to the Future pop into one’s mind.
How amazing it was, then, this morning, to discover that today, on the first official day of Reinventing the Supermarket, the date is none other than “Back to the Future Day” – otherwise known as the date Marty McFly goes to in the future in the Doc’s time-travelling Delorian – 21st October, 2015! I’m going to take it as a good omen indicating that the future for supermarkets and consumer goods in general, is back to quality, value, safety and nutrition and forward to strong ethics and environmental sustainability and friendliness.
